When you navigate with a BMW ConnectedRide Navigator, you can transfer your MRA routes directly thanks to the Connected App. This manual explains exactly which steps you need to take to export using this method.

Before you start

Before you can export using this method, it is important to have the following in order:

  • Account with MyRoute-app (Routeplanner Basic or Routeplanner Gold);
  • Downloaded the MyRoute-app;
  • Downloaded the BMW Connected app;
  • BMW ConnectedRide Navigation;
  • Account with bmw-motorrad.nl;
  • Download the required maps to have them available offline on your phone.

Export

Via your computer

  1. Open the desired route in the MRA Routeplanner;
  2. Send the route to yourself via email by clicking Share;
  3. The route is attached to the email and can be opened from your phone;
  4. To open the route on your phone, select the Connected app;
  5. Read more at Start route in the app.

Via the phone

  1. Open the desired route in the MyRoute app;
  2. Click on download and select the .gpx 1.1 option;
  3. Now click on Export and select the Connected app;
  4. Read more at Start route in the app.

Import in the app

Once you have followed the steps above, you can import the route into the app. When you open the Connected app directly, you will see the Route import screen. In this case, you can skip step 1 of the explanation below.

  1. Open the Connected app and click on the third button from the left at the bottom to open the Route import screen;
  2. Select the route you want to import;
  3. You can choose from two options, namely import as route or as route track;
  4. Tick your desired option and this route is now added to the route import list.

TIP! We always recommend choosing the track. A track contains many underlying (invisible) waypoints, which means that your planned route will be transferred to the navigation as accurately as possible.

iOS and Android Differences

It's important to know that there are differences between BMW's iOS and Android apps. This is especially important in recognizing viapoints in routes.

Because the Connected App runs on TomTom technology and maps, viapoints are not recognized as such. However, "normal" shaping points are recognized and displayed by the Connected App. With iOS, you first need to make these viapoints visible for a separate route. This isn't necessary with Android.

Start route in the app

  1. Click Start to start navigation;
  2. You can now choose between the starting point or the direct route. Choose Starting point, otherwise the navigation can send you directly to the end point;
  3. Select Navigation on the motorcycle and check whether the navigation icon appears on the display of your motorcycle. You need both Bluetooth and Wifi to connect your BMW to your phone.
