You've created or driven a beautiful route and want to share it with friends in a fun way. Read this guide to learn how to create a cool animation of this route or track. This functionality requires at least a Routeplanner Silver subscription.
This guide uses Animate for Routes as an example. Animate for tracks works the same way as Animate for routes.
Table of Contents
Starting Animate
Open the route you want to animate in the Route Editor. In the left sidebar, you'll see the list of waypoints by default. Click the three horizontal lines on the right to see the other options. Here you'll find Animate.
Settings
- Speed: Determine the animation speed here;
- Zoom: Determine the animation zoom level here;
- Images: If the route contains photos, these can be displayed;
- Text: If a waypoint contains a note, this can be displayed;
- Intro: Determine whether you want an intro and how long it should last;
- Outro: Determine whether you want an outro and how long it should last;
- Song: Add a music track to your animation;
- Public: Choose whether the animation should be public or not;
- Map Layer: Select a different map layer here, if desired.
What's next?
If all settings are correct, you still have the following options:
- Social page
- Start preview
- Record
Social page
Clicking this button opens the animated route in a new window. You can now share this web link with other MRA users to show the animated route.
Start preview
Click here to start the animation with the current settings. You can also pause or stop the animation.
Record
To record your animation, it's important that you first carefully read the pop-up window and understand the steps you need to take. This involves obtaining the correct permissions for recording.
- When you click Record in the pop-up window, you'll be asked what you want to share. Select Chrome tab;
- If you have multiple tabs open, select the correct tab;
- If you've added a song to your animation, don't forget to check Share audio;
- Click Record to start recording.
The recording will now be recorded live from your tab. Once the recording is finished, you'll see two new options in the sidebar. If you choose Download animation, the recording will be downloaded as a .webm file. If you want to save the animation as an MP4, choose Convert recording.
- To convert, you must first download the recording;
- Click Convert recording, and a new tab will open;
- Click Upload video and select the previously downloaded .webm file;
- Click Convert to MP4;
- Once the conversion is complete, you can download the MP4 file.
General notes
- The ratio between Speed and Zoom is important for the quality of the animation. If you zoom out too far and set the speed too high, the animation may be too fast, which will be less impressive. This also works the other way around: with a slower tempo and further zooming in.
- If you've added a song to your animation, it will play once. If the animation finishes before the song, the music will be cut off. If the animation is longer than the song, it will continue without sound.
- If you choose your own song, the animation will not be saved in MRA due to copyright regulations. To share the animation with music, we recommend choosing one of the songs from our own collection.
- The higher you set the video quality, frame rate, and resolution, the longer it will take to convert the animation to an MP4 file. Also, the animation cannot exceed 2GB in size for conversion to an MP4 file.
